Generating Issues
With JetMock, you can quickly generate random Jira issues with different attributes, such as priority, components, version, assignee, and others. This is useful for testing, performance evaluation, and generating dummy data for sandbox environments.
Steps to Generate Issues
- Open the “Issues” Page: Navigate to the “Issues” section in the JetMock app to start generating Jira issues.
- Configure Your Issue Generation: The form provides several options to customize the issue generation:
- Projects to Generate Issues For: Select the Jira projects where you want the issues to be created. You can choose one or multiple projects.
- Number of Issues to Generate per Project: Define how many issues you want to create for each selected project. Ensure this number is greater than 0.
- Issue Hierarchy Level: Choose the hierarchy level for the generated issues. This controls the issue type that will be selected randomly.
- Issue Name Prefix: Optionally, add a prefix to all issue names for easy identification.
- Issue Name Suffix: Optionally, add a suffix to all issue names.
- Generate Issues: Once the form is filled out, click the Generate Issues button to start the process. JetMock will create the specified number of issues for each selected project.
- Monitor the Progress: The app will display real-time progress as issues are generated. You’ll see an updated list of issues as they are created.
- Completion: When the process is complete, the generated issues will be listed. You can now view and manage them in your Jira projects.
Notes
- Permissions: Ensure you have the necessary Jira permissions to create issues in the selected projects.
- Parent Issues: If there are eligible parent issues in the hierarchy, they could be randomly assigned or left empty. Make sure you have the appropriate parent issues already created.
- Randomization: Key fields, such as priority, component, version, assignee, and others, will be assigned random values. Additionally, generated issues will be transitioned to random statuses after creation, unless blocked by user input or validation.
- Caution: Generating a large number of issues can clutter your Jira instance with dummy data. This feature is intended for testing and demonstration purposes.
