Generating Worklogs

With JetMock, you can efficiently generate random worklogs for Jira issues, streamlining the testing and performance evaluation of time-tracking features. This functionality is ideal for scenarios where you need to simulate worklog entries for a batch of Jira issues, such as bulk testing or populating a sandbox environment.

Steps to Generate Worklogs

  1. Open the “Worklogs” Page: Navigate to the “Worklogs” section within the JetMock app to begin creating random worklogs for Jira issues.
  2. Configure Your Worklog Generation: The form provides several options to customize how worklogs will be generated:
    • Projects to Generate Worklogs For: Select the Jira projects where you want worklogs to be created. You can choose one or multiple projects.
    • Max Number of Issues to Generate Worklogs Per Project: Specify the maximum number of issues for which worklogs should be generated in each project. Ensure this number is greater than 0.
    • Issue Hierarchy Levels: Choose the hierarchy levels for the issues. Worklogs will be generated for issues at these levels.
    • Min/Max Number of Worklogs per Issue: Set the range for the number of worklogs per issue. Worklogs will be randomly distributed within this range.
    • Min/Max Number of Hours per Worklog: Define the range for the number of hours logged in each worklog entry.
    • Worklog Date Range: Select the date range for the worklogs to be logged. You can choose predefined ranges, such as “This month,” or set a custom range.
  3. Generate Worklogs: After filling out the form, click the Generate Worklogs button to begin the process. JetMock will create the specified number of worklogs for the selected issues.
  4. Monitor the Progress: The app will display a progress indicator as the worklogs are generated. You’ll be able to track the status of each worklog as it is created.
  5. Completion: Once the worklog generation process is complete, the generated worklogs will be listed. You can now view and manage them within your Jira projects.

Notes

  • Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary Jira permissions to log worklogs in the selected projects.
  • Randomization: Worklogs are created with random values for fields such as the number of hours logged and the worklog date and time. Additionally, some issues may be randomly skipped from having worklogs generated.
  • Worklog Description: The worklog descriptions can be either filled with random human-like text or randomly left blank.
  • Caution: Generating worklogs in large quantities can clutter your Jira instance with dummy data. This feature is intended for testing and demonstration purposes only.
  • Logged by User: Worklogs will be attributed to the user running JetMock.

By following these steps, you can quickly generate worklogs across multiple issues and projects, aiding in your testing or demonstration efforts within Jira.
