Logging Work for Teams
Record which team and function role each work log belongs to.
Every work log in JetTime can carry two things about the work itself: the team it was done in, and the function role it was done under — Developer, Designer, QA, Account Manager, and so on. JetTime records both, so a team can read its own hours, and one person's time splits across the jobs they actually did. That split is what an invoice is built from.
Where Team and Role Sit in the Form
In the Log Work dialog, Team and Role sit directly under User and Date, above the fields your Field Scheme controls. A Field Scheme can hide Account, but never these two.
If the author belongs to any team at all, both fields are required, and the work log can't be saved without them. That is the guarantee worth knowing: nobody's hours quietly end up outside a team because someone was in a hurry, so a team's numbers are complete when you bill or review them.
The one case without the fields is a person who belongs to no team: for them the row isn't shown, and the work log saves with no team and no function role. Fix that on the team's People tab, not in the form.

What Each List Offers
Both lists follow the User field — the author of the work log, who is not always the person filling in the form. Pick a different user and both lists are rebuilt for them.
- Team offers the active teams that person is a member of on the team's People tab and may manage their own work logs in — from the View and Manage Own Work Logs global permission, or from Manage Own Work Logs in their permission role on that team. Archived teams are never offered.
- Role offers that person's function roles in the chosen team. Someone who sits in the team under two roles gets both, and picks.
With exactly one option, the field is filled in for you and disabled — required, but nothing to decide. With several, it stays empty, so the choice is deliberate: a silent default would put hours under the wrong team or the wrong function role, and that is the error an invoice carries downstream.
Editing an Existing Work Log
Open an existing work log and the team and role already recorded on it stay selectable, even if that person no longer holds them — as long as the original User is still selected, and, for the role, the original team. So correcting a description never quietly erases what the hours were logged under.
Change the author and JetTime rebuilds both lists for the new person. The old values drop out and you pick again. A team archived since then is not offered back.
Team and Role Also Shape the Form
Those two fields come before the rest of the form because they help choose it. A Field Scheme rule can key on the work log's team and function role, not only on the work item — so a QA logging to the Mobile team can get a required field the rest of the team never sees. Change either field and the fields below it can change with it.
Where the Values Show Up Afterwards
Team and function role become ordinary report fields, labelled Team and Role. Use them as columns, as grouping dimensions, or as filters in any report. Grouping by Role totals the hours worked in each role, whoever worked them; grouping by Team gives a team's output across every space, whoever logged it.
A team also has its own Worksheet tab — the same reporting, already filtered to that team, with nothing to build. For both, see reporting by team and function role.
